I enjoyed the lecture from Jonathan Barnbrook, I liked his sense of humour, it’s nice to see a designer who has a sense of humour as most seem to be quite dull an too involved with themselves and not what they like or enjoy.
1) Why create a new typeface: An expression of language.
2) Improve society
3) Using your past to create something new (This is my favourite point he made)
4) To create beauty
1. It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you wanna be.
2. Mistakes happen, it’s how you deal with it that counts.
3. Don’t promise too much.
4. Make things better.
5. Be playful.
6. Make opportunities. Don’t let them pass you by.
7. Ask for forgiveness, not permission.
8. Work to Live.
9. Know yourself.
10. Set Targets
(11. Work with people better than you)
I enjoyed this lecture, All the points he made about what he had learnt, I had heard before so it was not such a shock to hear it took him 7 years to get where he wanted, It’s quite realistic to know you may not get anywhere straight away which i think was a main point but also to not be put off if you change roles, jobs, cities and so on.
He also made the point it’s not about riches but about being happy.
I enjoyed the hellovon lecture, I found it refreshing to see a designer not into vectors but into using materials he enjoys
I also liked how he turned down JLS and gave I’m sure everyone insight as to how companies will try make you agree to something before giving you details about who you’re going to be doing work for.
I liked that fact that he also doesn’t find inspiration from other work, but gets it from subjects such as music and nature. It’s what in my opinion makes his work so striking to look at.
Hahahaha! Made me laugh!
The Exiled Forever coming into Land,
Seen this piece in the walker art gallery whilst visiting an exhibition about type, decided to go into the next room as it caught my eye and distracted me away from type, which is unusual.
had a close look at this, it’s amazing, i fell in love with all the colours an how surreal it looks but its fascinating how it looks like a photograph which may have been edited on the likes of photoshop,
I’d love to be able to paint like this, it’s unbelievable.
I think my favourite presentation was the ‘pear’
It was amusing to watch yet had a really serious point behind it about branding and how branding impacts if you buy something or not,
Loved the lipstick wink..
